Easy Steps to Travel With Your Pet Cat

Pets are part of our family and we can not bear their separation. Taking along your pet wherever you go is really a tough task and sometimes we feel unable to manage it. Cats are some of the best pets that are good looking as well as offer an enjoyable company. While you are planning to go out for vacation, you must be thinking to accompany it. But there are number of problems that you face while traveling with it.

In this snippet we will give you a thorough understanding about the easy steps that can facilitate you a safe journey along with your cat. You need to have plenty of time for preparing an airline travel plan with your cat. The effective chore of action is explained as under:

1. Contact To Airline

This is the first and the most basic step towards your travel plan. Here you need to select the best airline allowing your pets to travel with you as all of them are not pet friendly. Make sure that there is no extra cost and restriction. Ask the authorities if they allow your pet to be in the cabin instead of cargo. Make an advance reservation in the non - stop airline so as to avoid the layovers.

2. Do Some Shopping

Well, it is the high time to shop for your furry friend. Buy a suitable pet crate, toys that it likes, cat food, bowls, water bottles and identification tag, if needed. While buying a suitable crate keep in mind the size restrictions that the airline has set up and purchase the best one accommodating your pet.

3. Visit The Vet

Going to see your vet for an overall heath check up of your beloved cat is the most important part of travel preparation. Regardless of the health status of your cat, go to the vet and have some advance medication. Ask your vet for a tranquilizer, health reports and majorly the proof of vaccination shots.

4. Decorate The Crate

Before leaving for your journey do not forget to decorate the crate to pamper your adorable pet. Place the toys inside that it loves to play, keep the bowls inside and stick a "live animal" caution on it.

5. Traveling Manners

Off course you need to behave sincerely with your pet while it is travelling. Try to keep talking with it throughout the way so that it can ensure a safe journey. Give the medicines that you need to give it before the flight departures and restrict the food supply for sometimes.

Following the above tips you can have a happy journey with your four legged friend.

Pet Friendly Holidays - Your Pooch Can Come Too

Here in Britain we are renowned for being pet lovers as the 14 million registered dog and cat owners will testify. And all those owners add up to over 20 million four-legged friends. A big figure even before we start to think about the gerbils, hamsters, horses, goldfish, parrots or pythons and many other creatures that are our much loved pets.

Many of those millions of pet owners face the perennial question of what to do with Fido or Felix when the family takes its annual holidays.

Putting your pet in kennels is probably the only option if you want to travel further a-field and don't want the hassle of pet passports or quarantine. There are thousands of kennels to choose from, from small and friendly family owned businesses to larger, top notch dog hotels where your pet can have their own pampering holiday.

For the more adventurous pet travellers the Pet Travel Scheme makes it possible to take a dog or cat to many EU countries without having to endure a quarantine period on their return. PETS is all about stopping the spread of dangerous diseases and so there is still a need for controls and procedures. It's great but is a lot of work and stress for both the owner and the pet. Okay if you're travelling regularly or expect to stay abroad for any length of time, but probably not for the 2-3 week annual holiday in the sun.

For most people a holiday is time to be shared with every member of the family, and that includes Fido or Felix. So a very popular option with dog and cat owners is to stay in a self catering holiday cottage. Many allow pets to stay for free or for a small charge and as you have the place to yourself a dog friendly holiday cottage can be a real home from home for your pet. This option means it's easy to dine in with family and friends, and invite Felix or Fido along too. Many holiday cottage companies will have specific dog friendly cottages and even go so far as to check whether there is an enclosed garden, plenty of kitchen space and somewhere for walkies to make everyone's stay more enjoyable.

So what if you opt for a holiday cottage, but really do want to get away from it all? If you're ready for a pet friendly holiday and want to experience something different we'd recommend taking the whole family to Ireland. The culture, heritage and history make it a very special place and as Ireland knows a thing or two about the great outdoors pets are very welcome. Why not find out more about the fantastic places to visit and dog friendly places to stay.

Whether it's racing up the fell, tugging the lead through town, running for the lake - always carrying an unfeasibly large stick - or sitting nobly waiting for leftover sandwiches, this is dog country. Holiday cottages in the lake district are now more often than not pet friendly also.

Locals love dogs, too. I can guarantee you'll see several sheepdogs leaning fearlessly into turns on the back of a tractor or quad bike, possibly whilst keeping one paw on a sick lamb. Every farmer has an invisible lead attached to a faithful hound or two, following him everywhere.

Serves real ale from the Lake District's Hawkshead Brewery and a wide selection of home-made pies. Dogs are welcome in the bar and lounge.

The Black Cock Inn in Broughton-in-Furness is run by dog-owners who are happy to welcome visiting dogs. This is a traditional Lake District pub, with an honest, hearty menu. An excellent choice after a day's touristing.

The Blacksmith's Arms in Broughton Mills, near Broughton-in-Furness is an attractive doggy pub. Built as a farmhouse in 1577, it has atmospheric panelling, slate floors and oak beams. Serves the Lake Districts own Jennings' and guest beers from local microbreweries.

The Newfield Inn is a dog-friendly pub in Seathwaite in the Duddon Valley. It has a large garden and fabulous views. The Newfield serves traditional local food, with tasty seasonal specials.

The Shepherd's Arms in Ennerdale Bridge is a familiar, traditional Lakes former coaching house with white-washed walls and big sash windows. It's located on the main junction for passers-by - although, nowadays, those passers-by are likely to be walkers on the coast-to-coast walk. The Shepherd's is dog-friendly and has real ales and hearty, home-cooked food.

The Wheatsheaf Inn in Low Lorton welcomes dogs on leads in the bar. It's a seventeenth-century building, with an open fire, book-lined walls and an enclosed beer garden, serving Jennings' and a selection of guest beers. The Kirkstile Inn is the pub of choice for lunch in Loweswater for both two-legged and four-legged visitors (dogs are not allowed in the bar between 6pm and 10pm). CAMRA's pub of the year is dog-friendly, serves great beer, fab food and a great welcome in a traditional Lake District setting.

The Middle Ruddings Inn at Braithwaite, near Keswick, is a rambling Edwardian building with a lovely garden and open views to the Skiddaw range. They welcome dogs in the bar, where you can choose from their selection of very hearty meals.

The Sun Inn in Bassenthwaite is just the sort of place to collapse in after a long walk with the dog. It has a great ambience and delicious food. There's a scenic beer garden, with doggy bowls topped up with fresh water.

The Dog and Gun in Keswick is well-known amongst locals and visitors alike for welcoming dogs, and you can be sure there will be several there at any time of day. It's a very attractive pub, with log fires, slate floors and low ceilings, serving unpretentious, filling grub.

The Scafell Hotel in Rosthwaite, Borrowdale is fantastically located near the foot of Great Gable, in the centre of the valley. Just right for a pint and a bite in the middle of a day's walking. Dogs are very welcome here.

The Tithe Barn in Cockermouth welcomes dogs. It's a Jennings' pub - not surprisingly, given the brewery is located in Cockermouth - and it serves home-cooked food in its bar and restaurant.

Needless to say, this list isn't exhaustive! Sometimes pubs change their dog-friendly policies, especially if they change hands, so if it's critical to your enjoyment, please contact the pub to make sure before you go. Pet Friendly Travel - The RV Edition

For those of you who already own an RV, you know that it gives you the best of both worlds: the freedom of the open road while traveling with the amenities of home. RV owners love the ability to explore the world on their own terms and there are many more people hopping on the RV train. Recreational Vehicle sales for 2010 are already at $559.1 million dollars, up an astonishing 79% from last year.

The summer season is the best time to pack up the family for a fun-filled road trip - and of course this includes your dog! Here are some ways to prepare for your pet travel adventure to ensure that your pooch enjoys the trip just as much as you do.

Pet Proof Your RV

Even if your dog's puppy days are long gone, it's important to make sure the RV is ready for your pet in order to keep the vehicle in good condition. In the event of an accident (which is possible in new surroundings), you may want to wrap table legs in plastic and have towels, rags, and cleaners on hand to resolve messes quickly. If your dog is normally allowed on the furniture, covering the RV furniture with a slip cover or fabric can help combat hair and dirt. A dust buster or portable vacuum cleaner is also a great idea to keep up with debris.

Be aware of various items that are in the open and in your dog's path. Make sure extension cords cannot be chewed on and that cleaning supplies and insect repellents are out of reach. Even if your dog doesn't engage in these behaviors at home, when the dog is first getting used to your motor home her behavior may be a bit unpredictable. Before the trip, bring your dog inside the RV multiple times to familiarize her with the space so it's not a complete surprise that she'll be spending an indefinite amount of time here.

Pet Travel Safety Restraints

The pet travel tips the for car apply to your RV as well. While the RV is moving, it's necessary to have your dog restrained to avoid harm during a sudden stop or accident. Some RV goers prefer using a crate or kennel, while others choose to use a pet seat harness. Ultimately, use whichever method is the most conducive to your dog's size and comfort level.

It's also imperative to build in time for frequent stops along the way so that your dog can stretch his legs, get some exercise, and have the opportunity for potty breaks. If you plan on spending time away from the RV, use your judgment as to whether or not your furry friend should stay behind. Assess if your dog can handle the separation for a few hours. A good rule of thumb is that if your dog normally has separation issues, now is not the time to leave him alone in the RV.

If you know that your little one will be able to handle the time alone, make sure the AC is working properly so that it can run while you're gone. A good bet is to buy a small, portable air conditioner to run as a backup to keep him cool and comfortable inside.

RV Checklist

While you're enjoying the luxuries of home on the road, there are things that you can bring to make your dog feel the same way. Here is a checklist of items to pack for your pooch:

- Favorite bed, blankets, and toys

- Treats and food that your dog is already used to eating

- Dishes for food and water

- Tick & flea repellent and any necessary medications

- First aid kit

- Your pet's medical records and vet's phone number

- Contact information for local vets in all your destinations in the event of an emergency

- Your dog's leash (bring an extra one just in case)

Luckily, no matter what town you're in you'll most likely have access to a pet store if you forget something or realize that you need something along the way. Still, it's best to bring what she's already using to give her some sense of normalcy whenever possible.

Dog Friendly Campgrounds

Half the fun of having an RV is being able to join up with other RV-people at various pet friendly campgrounds and RV parks. Once you've mapped out where your family will be going, research different places where your dog will also be welcome so she can partake in the fun and be close to family and new friends.

A little bit of pre-planning and packing will go a long way in keeping your dog healthy and happy during your family's RV trips. Before you know it, everyone (including your dog) will be referring to the RV as "Motor home, sweet motor home."

Finding Luxury Dog Friendly Accommodation in Devon

Holiday time is family time and, where your dog is an important part of that unit, the search for your holiday base has to factor in the consideration of finding dog friendly accommodation. We are without doubt a nation of dog lovers so perhaps you wouldn't expect the search to be a difficult one nor is it if you require something basic. For the more discerning holiday maker however, with the family pet in tow, who wants comfort and luxury, dog friendly accommodation options become somewhat scarcer.

Holidays are all about location with each individual's ideal being thankfully somewhat different. However, there are some common factors that many of us seek and these include stunning locations, a variety of options for days out and activities and the chance to rest our head upon a pillow at the end of a day in a place we feel comfortable in. The Holsworthy area in North Devon, wonderfully close to the Cornish border, offers holiday makers all of the commonly sought after needs plus luxury, dog friendly accommodation with pet friendly cottages for rent all year round.

As an added bonus for dog owners, this area which already offers so much, has the dog friendly beaches of Sandy Mouth, Summerleaze, Northcott and the south beach area of Widemouth Bay all on the doorstep.

The area is rich in wide open spaces, natural and unspoilt environments and abounds with opportunities for holiday activities such as golfing, fishing, walking, horse riding and bird watching. If being water-bound is your aim then look no further, with a wealth of options to suit all - from the absolute beginner to the many years experienced individual. Activities such as sailing, kayaking, swimming and sea fishing trip opportunities are all within easy reach of your dog friendly accommodation base. If relaxation and the urge to stray very little from your luxury accommodation is what you have in mind then you can have that too in the setting of beautiful, tranquil gardens.

It is so often the case that the priority of securing dog friendly accommodation means having to settle for second best with regard to other holiday requirements but this area allows the best of both worlds. It is good to know that dog friendly accommodation doesn't have to mean compromise if you find the right place, allowing both you and your dog to have just the holiday or break you are looking for.

Traveling With Pets In Your Class C RV

There are many more Class C RV and travel trailer owners who are traveling with their pets. These Class C RV owners are saving money that they would typically spend putting their animals in boarding or paying someone to pet sit. You should know that Class C RV owners can enjoy their vacation plans with their four-legged friends. Across the nation, pets are becoming more welcome.

Class C RV owners are pleased that they can worry less about leaving their four legged friends at home. The tips listed below are a great guide for you if you are thinking about taking your pets with you on the road in your Class C RV or travel trailer.

Class C RV tips on pet travel:

1. Before you haul off with your pets, make sure your pet is acclimated to riding in the motor home or something that is moving. Younger animals may be easier to get adjusted to life in an RV, since older pets are more set in their ways.

2. When the pet(s) are in the recreational vehicle, make sure that they are secured. This helps prevent accidents from the driver not paying proper attention to the road. Keeping a pet secured also helps protect the pet in case there are any sudden jerks or stops. You can find special harnesses for animals that attach to the seat belt of the motor home.

3. It is also important that when you travel with your animals that they are properly tagged with a collar. Make sure that your contact information is current and correct. You could also take a current photo of the pets with you on your cell phone. You can keep this in your recreational vehicle in case you need an emergency reference.

4. You can also microchip your pet for low cost at your vet, which will provide additional security and pet safety. A microchip will be tagged typically inside the ear of the animal. They allow the vet to pinpoint the location of your animal via technology.

5. Track your vacation map and think about contacting the motor home camp grounds where you will be stopping at along your route. You will want to confirm that pets are allowed and are welcome on site. You will find that many camp grounds accommodate pets, but some still do not. You would not want to show up and be turned away. Some high-end, luxury RV campgrounds offer exclusive dog parks for the enjoyment of their customers as an added amenity.

RV Travel With Pets

Vacationing with your family, including the furry ones, provides a level of freedom not often found when staying in hotels or traveling in your family's car. Our family pets enjoy being with us, and RVing enables your family to be complete - without the anxiety associated with boarding your pets or asking a friend or neighbor to take care of animals while you're away.

Not all pets enjoy trips in a vehicle, but if you've taken your dog in the car to the dog park, to the vet, or on errands you already know what kind of a traveler you're dealing with. Cats are very different, as you probably know, and most are not happy travelers unless they've been trained to travel as young kittens.

When you bring your pet along with you, remember that it's never a good idea to leave your companion alone in a hot and unventilated RV for hours on end. You'll also not want to leave your pet with access to the entire RV. Just include an area that is spacious enough for your pet to enjoy with you, but away from the RV's driver. Nothing could be more catastrophic than having your affectionate critter finding his or her way under the accelerator or the brake while driving.

If your pet gets car sick, he or she is probably not the best candidate for an RV vacation and might actually be more comfortable staying at home. Many caged animals - guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits - are fairly easy to bring along because you can secure them and keep them happy with their toys. The exception to this is birds, as they can catch a draft fairly easily, so check with your bird veterinarian before you venture out with your feathered friend.

Before you make your final decision on bringing your pets, ask yourself a few questions: Will my pet remain safe during the trip? Will my pet be subjected to drafts, low or high temperatures. Is my pet in good health? Is my pet well-behaved? Will my pet enjoy being around other people and pets we might encounter during our travels? Is my pet a good traveler in general?

Whether you plan to relocate overseas or embark on a lengthy vacation to one or more foreign countries, you know the importance of packing appropriately and tying up any loose ends at home before you leave. Your passports are secure, mail is forwarded or placed on hold, and any interruption in your children's schooling is handled to suit everybody. If you own a pet, however, you have two options: you can board at a local kennel or--if it's necessary that your pup or cat come along--you arrange for special pet transportation.?

While pets are permitted to fly domestically through various airlines, that is not the case with Transatlantic, Transpacific, or Hawaiian flights. To ensure your dog or cat makes it safely to your destination, the services of a pet transportation service are required. As you research possible transporters to carry your beloved family friend on its trip, you no doubt will have questions about care and procedure. To assist in making the right decision for the money you will spend, these suggested questions to ask the services can help.?

1) Do they arrange for transportation from home to the departure airport, and from the arrival airport to the final destination? Find out if you are responsible for bringing your pet when you leave.?

2) Do they sedate pets for the transport? If you are concerned about allergic reactions or other risks, make sure you know beforehand.?

3) Are travel kennels supplied or do you need to bring your own??

4) Will the company board pets once they arrive at their destination city in the event you are delayed? If so, will it cost extra??

5) Is the company insured? Is there a pet health specialist on board with the pets in the event of an emergency??

6) How are the pets shipped? What is the condition of the cargo area??

7) Do they have a limit on height and weight of pets? If not, does the price rise in accordance to a pet's height and weight??

8) Do they provide food for the trip, or do you need to have it ready??

Once you have your answers, weigh your options and the quotes given you to ship your animals. A lengthy vacation or relocation is an exciting time for the entire family, and it's important that your four-footed friends safely share in the experience in the capable hands of a pet transportation service.

Taking Your Pet With You on Holiday Or Leaving it at Home?

Planning a holiday is wonderful, vacations are all about fun, but preparing might be quite stressful if don't take your time to organize it well in advance.

One of the most problematic issues when you're leaving home for more than a couple of days is: what should you do with your best friend, the pet? Many people get themselves a pet, whether is a cat, dog, hamster, turtle, fish, etc. without considering the responsibilities and the changes that such a decision implies. The pet is an animal kept for companionship and enjoyment as it is very appreciated for its loyal and playful characteristics. But what should we do with it when we want to go on vacation, should take it with or should we let somebody else to take care of it.

Traveling with an animal it's always problematic. There are a couple of things to be taken care of in order to have a smooth and stress free trip.

Do not forget that pets may need to have their vaccinations brought up to date and their worm and flea treatments applied. Moreover, if you decided to "pack" your pet and take it with you on a road trip, make sure that you always have with you the certificates and evidence that it is healthy. Consider packing its things as if they were your own. Never forget its familiar item from home such as bedding and toys. All these will help him to feel safe and secure.

Even if you are going to leave for a longer or shorter period of time, it is never a good idea to have a sudden change in food. Therefore, it is always better to take food that your pet normally eats. This will also help provide a bit of familiarity for your best friend.

Nevertheless, you have to be aware of the fact that traveling with an animal can be quite difficult, because, for example, most of the airways or train companies do not allow animals in the cabin and you have to put them in the cargo section. Traveling by plane or by train can be stressful for your dog or cat, especially if they are not used to these means of transport. But, if you consider that taking your animal with is too much of a hassle, you might consider handing it over to a kennel or a cattery as if it would go to a summer camp.

Pet Friendly Condo Vacation Rentals

Some families love their pets and hence find it very difficult to go on tours and trips without the pet. Most of them consider their pets as part of the family. Pets, too, being very close to their masters cannot adjust with other families and hence some of them stop eating and lose their enthusiasm if they don't see their masters for more than a day or too. This is one reason why many vacation places have pet friendly vacation rentals which permit families to carry their pets along with them and spend a vacation for a week or two in a rental home.

Such homes have all the amenities that a modern, comfortable house should have. In addition to that they allow pets. A good example is the Outer Banks of North Carolina where there are many rental homes in Hatteras realty. However, such pet friendly rental homes have a few rules to ensure pets do not bring discomfort to other people out to enjoy their vacation. Some of these rental homes charge an extra hundred dollars or so for the pet, which is non-refundable. Even after that, they reserve the rights to ask a tenant to vacate the rental vacation home if their pet is found in non-pet zones of the hotels.

Some ranches and lodges in valleys and beach areas like those in County Florida are great places for pets too which will enjoy the lush green woods and country landscape full of new things and smells, as much as you do. However, some of these places have leash restriction where a pet should always be on a leash of 6 feet or so. Tourists are fined with a heavy penalty if the pet is off the leash at any point of time as they may end up hurting children or other tourists.

Travelling With Pets - How to Find Pet Friendly Hotels

As the owner of 2 German Shepherd dogs, I was planning to take a few days get-a-way along California Highway #1. Until I actually started making my plans, I thought I would have a very hard time finding a hotel that would take the two large dogs, but was pleasantly surprised to find there is lots of information to help vacationers, with pets find the right hotel to stay at.

My search found many places where I could stay with my two dogs. I got the name and location of places that accepted pets, phone numbers, the weight of pets they wouldl accept, how many could stay at one time and the cost. The Fees were listed according to the weight of the pet and I was also given, the hotels charges per night for the accommodations and in some instances I was able to make my reservation online.

After reading all they had to offer, as well as recommendations of prior guests, which were posted, on the different hotel sites, I chose the Best Western Cavalier Inn.

This hotel has all non-smoking rooms with either king or two queen beds. The rate varies depending on the location of the rooms. Choices ranged from rooms right on the bluff, with the ocean just 20 feet below, To oceanfront rooms, 100 feet back from the ocean bluff and rooms with a view of the ocean. Many of the rooms come with wood burning fireplaces, soaking tubs, TV's, internet access and sliding glass doors that lead to private patios, from which you will have a front row seat to the spectacular sunsets. Cars are parked right outside the entrance to the rooms downstairs, and for guests upstairs, their parking is convenient to the stairs leading to the top floor.

The beautiful landscaped grounds have panoramic ocean views, are lighted in the evenings with fire pits, that have seats nearby, and which are also lit, to keep off the evening chill that is common along the coast. There is lots of lawn areas and pathways for leashed pets to walk and play on. The hotel even furnishes the doggie scuppers.

Getting to this location, along highway 1, there are many swimming beaches one can stop at, or drive out among the sand dunes, go boating or fishing. If it is the right season, whales cavorting off-shore. A short detour Inland, there are lots of wineries, open for tours, wine tasting or to purchase a bottle of your favorite.

Dog Boarding Options for Holiday Travelers

For pet owners, there aren't many options when it comes to holiday traveling. People can either leave their pet with a friend or family member while they are away, or they can bring the pet with them. Unfortunately, during the holidays most family members and friends are also traveling to see their own loved ones, and most hotels do not allow pets in their rooms. One excellent option for travelers with pets is leaving the furry friend at a pet hotel for the duration of the trip.

Pethotels are popular new ways for dog boarding in Middlesex NJ. With pethotel accommodations, owners can leave their special companion at the facility for the entire duration of their vacation. The pet hotel employees typically take the pet out 3 or 4 times a day for bathroom breaks, and offer group play sessions with the other pets.

Pethotels are a much more luxurious and relaxing place for animals to stay while the owners are away. Other boarding facilities keep the pets in small kennels for the majority of the day, and only allow them out for a few minutes to go to the bathroom. With a pet hotel, the animal gets a spacious room with a comfortable bed, making the vacation process a lot easier on the pet.

However, if the idea of leaving a pet for a long period of time is undesirable, there are some human hotels that accommodate dogs and cats. Typically, the hotels offer food services and an area for walking and bathroom breaks.

The new parks all have water spouts a water bowl, doggie poop bag stand, a trash receptacle and are recognizable by the carved out doggie bone and fire hydrant. Additionally, note that you can find all current airport pet parks at http://petfriendlytravel.com.

When traveling with your pet, research all airlines and hotels to see what their policies are. Also, check on pet policies at restaurants and inquire if there are boarding facilities at or near airports. A few airports and airlines have pet boarding facilities. A fairly good resource is the North American Pet Book.

Aside from transportation, lodging, and dining, you should provide your pet with proper identification, medication, collars and leashes when traveling. Note that heart worm medication is important during mosquito season. Being aware of all the support that is available for you and your pet these days as it should make it easier for you to travel with your furry family member.

Visitor numbers rocket in Dubai

During the year, Dubai saw the opening of 33 new hotels and apartments, representing a six per cent capacity increase since 2009 to 573 establishments. This now means that the emirate offers 70,955 rooms - up 15 per cent on the previous year.

Ian Scott, director UK and Ireland for the DTCM, said: “To record such impressive growth figures during what we all recognise was a tough trading period pays tribute to the continuous cooperation between the DTCM and its partners.

“This has ensured year round events, training and familiarisation trips for travel agents, PR activities, advertising and participation in exhibitions among many other activities.

“We continually strive to be the most proactive and supportive tourist board in the UK, and this momentum gives us every reason to be confident about 2011, a year which is already delivering year on year growth in visitor numbers.”

Last year saw tough market conditions and hotel rates coming under pressure, but tourism revenue in 2010 still exceeded 13 billion AED – up 6.5 per cent on 2009.
Hotel occupancy rate remained flat at 70 per cent, while apartment occupancy increased two per cent to 68 per cent, even taking into account the capacity increase.

Top 10 Destinations to visit in 2011

Where in the world are you going to travel to in the year 2011? Below is a list of the top 10 destinations that you could choose from. Some places are ones that figure on most lists, but then we have included others that are up and coming destinations that are under appreciated and not yet part of a traveler’s beat but promise to become hot spots soon.

Belgrade, Serbia
If ever there was city that has risen from the ashes it has to be Belgrade. Though the ravages of war are still present and serve to remind one the city’s turbulent history, Belgrade today is a city on the move and retains the best of east and west Europe with the excellent museums and galleries being a great attraction for the history and art buff. The cosmopolitan character comes out in the decidedly French cafes that spill on to the streets, where people sip coffee all day and it makes you wonder if all are on perpetual holiday. Vibrancy permeates through the city and its citizens welcome you with open arms.
Come and savour the new Belgrade!

Berlin, Germany
The freeze of the Cold war is long over and the thaw set in some time ago. Berlin is now one of the hippest cities in Europe and a must visit in 2011. World class museums and reminders of a not so pleasant era rub shoulders with the high fashion in busy streets and a pulsating nightlife that is second to none. Berlin is a city where reminders of the past are everywhere, but it is also a city that is uber cool and contemporary, a city that has been on the fast track and is now number one!

New York City, USA
New York never fails to excite. No matter how many times you have visited, there is always something new to discover in this Capital of the World called New York. From world class museums to towering skyscrapers, from high fashion on Fifth Avenue to the bohemian culture of the Village, from the ubiquitous pizza to New York Cheesecake, from Broadway plays to subway performers, New York has something for everyone and because of its diverse multi cultural population, has the unique ability to make you feel at home.

Tangier, Morocco
In 2011, venture into the exotic, mysterious and exciting city of Tangier in the fabled land of Morocco. West meets east and gets easily enmeshed in Tangier where the Spanish influence is palpable as is the Moorish African one: feel it in the stylish cafes on the promenade and in the cathedrals in the city, be enthralled in the bustling souks or in the beach bars. Enjoy a sumptuous meal of couscous and tagine at the Medina or dine at a restaurant on the Seafront. There is much to do and see in Tangier and as Paul Bowles wrote ‘some place are more magical than others’.
Tangier certainly qualifies.

New Zealand
New Zealand is near perfect. It’s almost unfair that New Zealand is crammed with so many wonderful sights and the most stunning landscapes you will ever see. This tiny country is made up of two islands – North and South which have a sprinkling of interesting and beautiful cities, is very high on scenic beauty, a Maori culture that is still very much present and is melting pot with a mix of people. They all go up to making New Zealand an outstanding destination!

Istanbul, Turkey
Take one part of culture, add a huge dollop of history, blend in some architectural wonders, stir in some great shopping, fabulous food and nightlife. And what do you get? A heady cocktail called Istanbul! The city never fails to please – replete with history that spans centuries, museums filled with magnificent artifacts and busy bazaars that hum with activity, Istanbul is sure to floor you.
Come and you may never want to leave!

Cork, Ireland
Tucked away in the southern part of Eire, Cork is fast catching up with Dublin the number one city of Ireland. Cork is a pretty little town with a sprinkling of beautiful churches, the lively English market, happening pubs where you can knock back a stout or two while you try to decipher what the friendly bartender in his sing-song lilt is saying. In Cork it really doesn’t matter because his smiling Irish eyes say it all.
Go to Cork while it is still not run over by tourists, while it still retains its Irish charm.

Abu Dhabi, UAE
Move over Dubai, Abu Dhabi is here. A slick city, Abu Dhabi is a year round destination that boasts of beautiful beaches and sandy dunes, where minarets and mosques jostle for space with ultra modern shiny skyscrapers. Abu Dhabi will dazzle you with its futuristic building, glitzy shopping, its delightful cornice on the beachfront, its sophisticated clubs and bars. Come and get a taste of the warm hospitality that the residents of Abu Dhabi will shower on you and unravel the mystique associated with the Middle East.

Kyoto, Japan
Visit Kyoto in 2011 for its historic value: 17 UNESCO designated World Heritage sites and some 2000 temples and shrines. Even if history is not your thing you will find yourself being drawn in by this culturally enriched city, with its beautiful parks and Japanese gardens, where you can still visit a tea house and be entertained by a geisha girl.
In your mind’s eye if you have ever imagined what Japan would be like, well Kyoto comes very close to it!

Sri Lanka
The Golden Isle of Sri Lanka beckons. Sweet smelling spice gardens, magnificent landscapes, pristine beaches, beautiful temples, elephant orphanages, sumptuous fiery food and some great bargain shopping is in a nutshell what Sri Lanka is all about. Sri Lanka is synonymous with the word ‘serendipity’ and how apt that is as in Sri Lanka many pleasant surprises await you and appear when you least expect them!
Come and discover.

Machu Picchu, Peru
Yes, we know that Machu Picchu has figured on the must visit lists over the years, but we list it here again. Two reason for that actually: It has been consistently voted as the most eco -tourist friendly place and July 24, 2011 marks 100 years since it was ‘discovered’ by Prof H Bingham of Yale University. Machu Picchu also found its place on the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007 and there is little doubt that it is one of the most intriguing destinations on Planet Earth.
So visit it for its spectacular views and the magical surreal experience it promises to be.

Kerala, India
Dubbed ‘God’s own Country,’ by the state’s Tourism Board, Kerala is just that! And though it has found its way repeatedly on the must visit lists, we list it here once again! Swaying palm trees lining the idyllic backwaters you can cruise down, sun-kissed beaches to frolic on, great wildlife viewing at Periyar, spice gardens at Munnar, ayurvedic and spa treatments at wellness resorts, fabulous festivals round the year and a mouthwatering cuisine to choose from.
A vacation is Kerala is succor for the body and soul – a dream destination that should be on your list this year.

Stockholm, Sweden
Stockholm’s climb to the list of top of must visit cities has been slow but sure. The amalgam of the old and the new is quite amazing and it can be seen in the quaint cobbled streets of the Gamla Stan which are lined by Baroque buildings and in the Royal Palace that are juxtaposed against contemporary buildings like the Ericsson Globe shaped like a giant golf ball. Made up of 14 islands, there are beautiful expanses of parks, forest and beaches. The nightlife is exciting and the ice bars a novelty. The people are friendly and Stockholm promises to please.

London, UK
Everyone loves a fairytale and what better than to be present at the grand royal wedding of Prince William and his lady love Kate Middleton. All roads will lead to London in April 2011with people the world over getting ready to be a part of the grandest royal wedding celebrations after Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s.
